PICNIC IN THE PARK 2011
WERE YOU THERE ?
Our first
Picnic in the Park was a RESOUNDING success. On Friday evening we went into the
Club for a drink and were treated to a marvellous recital by the joint Llay
Miners Club and The Camping &
Caravanning Club Bands with some
banter from the conductor who invited some of the audience to join in. A few
youngsters readily came forward some with grandparents and the Kazoos were a big
hit. Also Di & Bubs rendition of There’s a Hole in My Bucket caused a smile.
Saturday some members went to Llangollen to visit the Eisteddfod, others into
Wrexham. Late morning we had torrential rain. Mid afternoon blue skies and the
sun appeared staying with us until after 9pm. At 7.30pm we were all sat around
the Band Stand ready with our flags and banners. We were treated to a great
outdoor performance with a larger number of bandsmen & women, there were solo’s
from young soloists playing Share My Yoke and Concerto de (Orange Juice) then
the Euphonium duet Calon Lan finishing at almost
10pm. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. By the time that we had all
chatted it was 10.30pm getting back to our vans.
Sunday morning at our usual morning coffee some dedicated band members
played while we all had our coffee & biscuits. Sunday evening many of the vans
went home leaving 16 units to enjoy another lovely evening. Thank you to
everyone for making this a successful rally and extra thanks to the Bands
